Buchan and Back

A trip to Buchan today for lunch.  Countryside is looking dry and many of the dams on properties along the way are empty, or just a mud puddle in the middle.  Even the things that are actually green, are a dull green, not the full bright healthy green we should be seeing at this time of year.

However, it is a lovely trip and lots to see along the way.  At Buchan we stopped at  The Bluff Reserve on the river.  Spectacular rock formations and caves, and the beautiful mountains in the background.  Lovely picnic spot right on the water, would be great on a really hot day.

The river is fast flowing, though didn’t appear very deep at the upper end. Was tempted to wade across to the island but decided I might end up floating off down the river should I fall in!

Along the walking track there’s a swinging bridge that takes you over the river to a nice little picnic spot, which I believe can also be accessed from in town, just passed the Buchan Roadhouse.

And make sure you call in at the Buchan Roadhouse and try one of their famous, and totally delicious steak sandwiches!

Cruise aboard Lonsdale Eco Cruises – Lakes Entrance

Friday November 2, some of the members of “Walking With Friends – Lakes Entrance” enjoyed a cruise aboard Lonsdale Eco Cruises.

This is a fun, informative cruise, and even though the weather was less than favourable, we all had a wonderful time.   We have done this cruise many times before, but it is never boring.  Tony is very knowledgeable about the area, and always manages to teach us something new.  On other cruises, we have found the dialogue, dull, boring and delivered in a monotone suggesting that the speaker wishes he/she were anywhere else but there!  Tony never sounds this way,  and presents his “off the cuff” commentary in a conversational and enthusiastic way that is very enjoyable to listen to.  The sound system onboard is excellent, meaning that you are never straining to hear what Tony is saying.  Crew, Melinda and Bronte make themselves available for anyone to ask questions, and make each guest feel welcome and comfortable.  It goes without saying that the scones are amazing (I’ve heard it said Melinda’s scones are the best in Gippsland) and Bronte served them with a smile, and a pleasant word to everyone.   All of this adding to the great atmosphere onboard.

The bonus of the day was seeing the dolphins at the Entrance, although they were not as playful as they have been over the last few weeks, we did manage a glimpse or two as Tony guided “Lonsdale” to the Entrance so we could get some photos.

A highly recommended Cruise on the Gippsland Lakes!
